Crestwood Care Centre - Crestwood, IL Crestwood Care Centre recently held a seminar on Understanding Stroke, which was open to the public. This program is the first in a series from the Senior Education Institute. The seminar was presented Dr. Martin Ye, Rehabilitation Medical Director and Dr. Mary T. Do, Neurologist. Together, they covered such topics as:
Dr. Do stated,
“When a person has a stroke, blood fails to reach brain cells as a result of a blood clot or bleeding in the brain. Emergency care can save a patient from long-term damage and death. Act F.A.S.T. to increase recognition and response to stroke symptoms.
F=Face Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop
A=Arm Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?
S= Speech Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Does the speech sound slurred or strange?
T= Time If you observe any of these signs, call 9-1-1
The primary goal of Crestwood’s Stroke Rehabilitation is providing patients with the ability to accomplish the tasks of daily living and enjoy an improved quality of life. Our staff achieves this goal through highly personalized and integrated programs that borrow from physical, cognitive and psychological therapies. Treatments often include the following:
• Physical, occupational and speech therapy Throughout the program, Dr. Do kept repeated the message "Quit Smoking" to diminish the chances of having a stroke. Both doctors answered questions afterward.
